ISO's approval of ODF as an international standard is an important milestone for ODF and the Alliance. We have issued the following press release (see: http://www.odfalliance.org/news.html). We encourage all of you to make the vote's outcome and significance known as broadly as possible in your respective country, region, or locality, utilizing as you see fit the points made in the release and/or outlined below.

-Congratulate ISO/IEC and the national bodies on the successful vote to approve the OpenDocument Format (ODF) as an international standard.
-The vote is a milestone in the advancement of ODF and the mission of the Alliance.
-By standardizing file formats, anyone can use them, anyone can implement them on any platform at any time, and no license or fee is required.
-Adoption as an international standard will catalyze efforts to promote the use of ODF around the world.
-Governments are only beginning to tackle the growing problem of digital archives and long-term access and retrieval of vital records.
-A now internationally-recognized standard, ODF provides governments with the means to receive, issue and store documents in a manner that preserves long-term access.
